Hollywood Fringe at The Cat’s Crawl

El Mago Loco means “The Crazy Magician” in English. The 45-minute performance is directed by Natasha Mercado and stars Linzy Beltran as a magician who only aims to do Latino magic but gets thrown for a loop when realizing that the audience is not just one filled with Latinos. Throughout the show, Beltran interacts with the audience in various ways such as jokingly asking them what their race is, thus when things go awry when it comes to the magic being performed, it can easily be explained that the magician usually isn’t used to a diverse audience.
As El Mago Loco performs his magic tricks, it is quickly understood that this magician just might not be top tier. That, however, is what makes him unique. The show itself is very silly and absurd throughout; however in this era, many can find solace in the silliness. With it being a one woman show (kind of an inverted drag show), Beltran does a good job of not only keeping the energy high and her audience entertained, but keeping everyone on their toes for what’s to come next.
