Anne, A New Play

I just saw this production of “Anne … a new play” this evening and I agree with everything the Reviewer wrote. This production completely lacked the urgency and horrors of the time . There wasn’t a character that you felt the deep sadness and empathy that an audience member should feel. There was no real emotion in any of the performances … none. As a matter of fact, I thought the entire play was miscast . Not a believable character in any of the leads. I found the script as only retelling the story … but without any of the most important scenes.
Truthfully … why was this play written ? For what purpose ? Three years ago, I had the exceptional experience of seeing the Jewish Repertory Theatre of Nevada’s production of “ The Diary of Anne Frank” in Las Vegas. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house …. now that was a production to see.
I only went to see this show because I thought it was going to show Anne, as if she lived . That is what one is led to believe in the marketing, but never materializes with the exception of her meeting a publisher in a cafe … period. A major disappointment and a disservice to Anne Frank .
