Hi Steven. OMG! Thanks for sharing. While I was Artistic Director of Actors Co-op we had the honor of having Mr. Simon attend opening of Fools. While his comedies are not my favorite, we did The Seagull the year before, I do appreciate the audience appreciation and his skill as a comedy writer. Fools ran for 12 weeks, rarely had an empty seat and was moved almost entire cast and crew to The Rubicon and on to an Equity contract. The Seagull won more LAWeekly nominations, myself included, than all previous Co-op shows combined but was the only show in my 8 years at the Co-op that lost money. True, Simon is no Chekhov. Chekhov is no Simon.
Thanks again for sharing. Brave. I have always loved your writing positive and negative alike and always determined where I was in my art by the mentions I received from the LAWeekly. I’d love to give Red Ink a shot.
SLM is my favorite L.A. critic and I love reading him. How exciting to have a hand-typed letter from Mr. Simon. Envy is all over my face. But both men clearly admire each other and I’m sorry the Weekly has left Theatre Planet Earth.
