WE NEED YOUR HELP (15-30 minutes of your time)
Theories abound as to why our theater is in trouble: rising costs, poor funding, poor programming, an aging audience base, reluctance to attend live theater while Covid lurks in the shadows, high ticket prices, unsafe streets, and on and on, making our heads spin.
What we lack is data that can lead us to the actual causes of our collective malaise.
Stage Raw is trying to remedy that with two surveys: one for Southern California theater patrons, the other for theaters based in Southern California.
If you are a patron or run a local theater, please help us get to the facts of what’s going on by filling out one of these surveys by September 1. They’re not long, and they are confidential. When we publish responses, they will be as data points. Your privacy will not be breached.
We need a sufficient number of responses to render the surveys statistically significant, so please pass along this note to anybody you know who either runs a Southern California theater, or attends any of them.

Snehal Desai takes over at Center Theatre Group
Snehal Desai is leaving his post as producing artistic director of Little Tokyo-based East West Players (EWP) to become artistic director of Center Theatre Group (CTG), replacing Michael Ritchie, who stepped down December 31, 2021, and joining Managing Director Meghan Pressman. (Since Ritchie’s departure, CTG has been operating with a quartet of associate artistic directors.) At EWP, Desai produced and directed three of the highest grossing and most attended shows in the company’s 57-year history.
